FEATURES
A DAY ON THE LAKE WITH
BYRON VELVICK. The Day on the Lake segment is one of the most
popular in Bassmaster Magazine, bringing top Bassmaster Elite
Series pros to obscure bodies of water and giving them seven
hours to unlock the secrets. Bassmaster senior writer Don Wirth
logs a day with Bryon Velvick of Boulder City, Nev., who holds
the BASS record for heaviest three-day limit, achieved on California's
Clear Lake. The 43-year-old pro landed two keepers on a Berkley
jig, with the heaviest weighing more than 7 pounds.
HOT TREND: BASSTRIX PADDLE
TAIL TUBE. Swimbaits emerged as a favorite bait for many Bassmaster
Elite Series pros during the past season. With limited supplies
and the versatility of the lure, many anglers are trying to determine
which lures are the best and the brightest. The Basstrix Paddle
Tail Tube certainly qualifies as a favorite of Elite pros. Bassmaster
senior writer Louie Stout reports.
REFRESHER FOR FISHING THE
FALL. With cooler weather approaching, bass anglers must adjust
to the fall conditions. Bassmaster writer Louie Stout explores
fall patterns for various types of waters that anglers will face
around the country.
MORE INFORMATION YOU
NEED TO KNOW
ANGLER'S WORKBENCH. A simple
project to keep rods out of harms way is to suspend a rod rack.
The project, detailed in the November edition of Angler's Workbench,
costs about $15 and should take less than an hour. All that is
needed are simple tools and a place for the rack. For helpful
hints, fishing fans can check out Angler's Workbench in Bassmaster
or tune in to ESPN2 on Saturday mornings for program shorts.
DESTINATIONS: LAKE CASA
BLANCA. With Texas big bass producers such as Lake Fork and Sam
Rayburn, many bass anglers have overlooked a small but productive
Texas gem in Lake Casa Blanca. The 1,680-acre lake has produced
several 13-pound-plus largemouth bass and is located in South
Texas. The impoundment can be accessed via Laredo, located on
the international boundary between the U.S. and Mexico.
