August 3, 2009 - Hey y'all. I'm back. I've spent quit a bit of time at Emery Park lately. I've probably gone over there the last three Sunday mornings and done pretty well.

I normally start out with my Zara Spook. I can normally always pick off a couple with it. Once the sun comes out, I tie on one of my jigs that I make and can normally catch a few more.

I've been going down there with some buddies and they ave also caught fish. One of them wacked 'em pretty good on a spinnerbait and also on a Lake Fork Ring Fry.

Well that's about all I can say for Emery. I plan to get back over there again this Sunday morning. If you don't have anything going on, come on down and fish with me.

Good lucking fishin'!

May 11, 2009 - Well I made it back out yesterday. I arrived at the little pond around the corner yesterday about 11:00, figured it would be pretty good fishing. well I started out fishing a Zoom Super fluke and caught a couple. it was key to have my bait as close to the bank as I could.

Then I changed from my Fluke to a little X-rap and rally whacked 'em. I caught probably seven on that. they wanted it jerked real fast, then i would stop it and they would slam it while it was suspended after about five seconds after I was jerking it.

Let me tell you all, is is now prime fishing at about everywhere you go. for all, y'all catfish guys, if you wanna get into some fun action go on down to the river at the Lincoln Street bridge. It's one of the best places, but trust me, it is not the only place. Anywhere's good really as long as you fish the current breaks.

Well be sure to come in and say hey and I'll do my best to share all the places and baits to help you get into some fish. Thanks for taking the time to reed this. I'll do my best to keep it updated.

April 22, 2009 - Well I FINALLY whacked 'em. I went over to Watson Park and fished my little Spook and they were slamming it let me tell you. The key seemed to be having that bait as close to the shore as I could. The bait basically beached itself every time it went to the right side. The bites I got also came within seven seconds of it hitting the water, more of a reaction bite. But I still caught a couple fishing it erratically.

I plan to get back out tonight. "I got the fever now, let me tell ya." Well, I'll let y'all know how that goes. I gotta couple other ideas on how to whack I'm again. Be sure to come in and let me know where them fish are bite'n.

April 18, 2009 - Well spring is finally here!! Thank God!! I made it out last Saturday evening for a hour or so. I went there thinking I might be able to get a couple fish on topwater, but I blieve it's still a little early. That water is still pretty cold. I went from my popper to a spinnerbait and beat that little pond to death. I tried fishing it a few different ways, burning it, slow rolling it, but once I started yoyoing it - Wham, that little guy slammed it. I yanked him skippin' across the water and he got off.

Well, the plan is to get back out today or tomorrow weather permitting. I think I'm gonna throw a swimbait. Tthis time last year I did real well on it and a lizard.

Well make sure y'all come in and let me know where the fish are bite'n and I'll do my best to give you all the info I can. Thanks.

March 2, 2009 - I received an email today about fishing Buffalo Park , especially when it's mossy. I would answer it here in case others might be interested.

Normally when I go to Buffalo Park and it's mossy I throw a handful of different baits. I've had good luck on top water frogs, buzz baits, and Spooks to name the one's I mainly use. I also will throw Zoom Super Flukes weightless. Weightless is key at Buffalo because of that brutal grass we all fight.

To answer the question about if the fish are in that thick, thick cover, the answer is yes. They normally sit along the edge of the thick grass and open water waiting for bait fish or my little fluke.

Buffalo Park can be pretty tough sometimes and the moss can drive you crazy, but I've caught and lost a lot of big fish in that mossy little pond.

Well, good luck and maybe we'll run into each other sometime. don't hesitate to give me a shout..

February 24, 2009 - Well geeeze. Got Skunked. A customer buddy "Fernando" and I went over to Watson Park yesterday and fished from about 1:30 to 4:00 and all I had was one fish swipe at it and that's it. I started out yoyoing a Rattle Trap that produced the only action I had when one swiped at it. I've had a lot of good luck fishing that way this time of year. But not yesterday.

Fernando caught one doing it though. It was about a pound and a half fish. I threw about everything I had at 'em and I couldn't seem to get a bite for nothin'.

February 23, 2009 - Well I made it back out again Sunday and managed to castch seven. I took the fly rod out again and fished a little 1/124th oz jig I tie in chartreuse and white. I caught five crappie and two big bluegill. the trick was the speed I ished it. I fish it so-o-o-o slow, about as slow as possible and they'd hit it after it had been sitting for about 10 seconds after shakin' it. I hope to get out with my bass rod tomorrow if I get out of the store erly. i'm thinking about going to Watson Park.

February 16, 2009 - Well I made it out again yesterday for a couple hours. i took the fly rod out again and fished a beautiful wooly bugger I tie. I caught a couple nice fish, one came within the first 10 minutes I was there. It was about a 12-13 inch thick crappie. Then about an hour later I managed to stick one more. It was a largemouth. He probably went two pounds. Boy I tell you what, those two fish on the fly rod is a lot of fun.

Well be sure to come in and see me and let me know where the fish are biting. I'll do my best this year to get out a lot more to these local park ponds and KDOT lakes to give reports. Thanks for the info y'all already gave me. Our customers are surely grateful. Just keep it coming. thanks and i'll catch ya later!!

February 15, 2009 - Hey everybody, it's gettin' so close to bein' that time it's killin' me. I went over to a city pond a couple weekends ago and struck out (I'd been goin' crazy for quite some time, so it was nice just to get out). I didn't even get a bite.

I went out again last Sunday and caught three. Hey, three's better than nothin' ya know. Here's the thing though, I took out my fly rod, so they were three bluegills. I was on a mission to just catch something. Heck, it was still a lot of fun. I know I could probably take me a little finesse jig or a Rattle Trap and whack a few, but that's next weekend.

September 17, 2008 - Hey y'all, I finally made it back out yesterday. I went over to Watson Park and fished it for an a little bit over an hour. I decided that I was going to only take my spinning rod out and try a little finesse fishing. I started out with a finesse caroline rig with a little Zoom 4" lizard and only caught one. It was pretty tough and really slow compared to the way I normally fish, but that's why I figured I'd catch 'em. Of course they'd have to be in the mood and of course they weren't really.

Well with about thirty minutes left until dark I tied on a 1/8 oz.shaky head with a Gulp floating worm and picked off a couple more with the quickness. I'd say if i was to go back over there, I'd start out with my little shaky worm then just before dark tie on my deadly spook. The spook is a killer just before dark at Watson.

Well be sure to come in and let me know how your fishing's been lately and where the BIG ones are staying.

Good Luck

September 5, 2008 - I made it back out yesterday and went over to Watson Park. I got there about 6:45 and fished until dark. I started out with my big old Bass Magic swimbait (the 5.5 one in the black diamond color). i threw that sucker for over an hour and couldn't seem to buy a bite. I know you probably think that a 5.5 inch swimbait is too big; but trust me, it's not. I've been tearin' them up on it at the little pond by my house.

Anyway, I threw it for over an hour and didn't get any bites. The only bites I seemed to get were mosquito bites. So with a little under an hour to fish I tied on my deadly little Zara Spook and caught one. I had a couple others blow up on it, but i figure they were little dinks anyway. Well I hope to get back out tonight I've been wanting to go over to Buffalo Park I'm gonna try to talk my dad into going with me. Buffalo Park is about the best little pond in town when it comes to quality fish, I swear the average fish is 2-3 pounds. Well good luck fishing everyone, make sure to come see me and let me know how the fishing's been for you.

August 26, 2008 - Well I made it out yesterday for a few hours on my day off. I went over to Emery Park. I hadn't been there for four to five months. I started out with a jig, flippin' it along the edges of the cattails and managed to catch a couple. Then I tied on a Zoom Fluke weightless and threw it along the bank fishing it pretty irradically and caught a couple more. Then I slowed m y presentation down a lot and caught a couple more.

Right before dark I tied on a buzz bait and I managed to get one to blow up on it but I missed him. Then I went to my little Sammy 65 and caught two more just before I had to leave.

Remember, this time of the year the fish are more sluggish than normal because of the heat, so if fishing seems tough try slowing down your presentation. Plastic worms and jigs work very well this time of the year and top water baits in the early mornings and late evenings work very well too. Good luck.

August 12, 2008 - Well I made it out Sunday evening and threw my deadly little swimbait. I managed to catch only one. Fishing was pretty tough. They seemed to want it swimming about as slow as possible and as deep as I could keep it. I'd heave it as far as I could down the bank about 25 feet out in the water and slowly crank it back to me trying to keep it in the strike zone.

Like I said, fishing was tough and I only managed to catch one fish but that's OK. That's why they call it fishing and not catching.

I hope to get back out later this afternoon. I think I'm gonna throw a topwater bait like my Top Dollar by Norman or maybe even a buzzbait right on the bank bangin' in to every stick and rock I come across.

Well, good luck. Hope you have a better day's fishing than my last time out.

August 7, 2008 - I made it out yesterday for an hour or so. I started with a Berkley Power Bait hollow belly swimbait with one of our 5/0 swimbait hooks. I caught one and my buddy caught another on the same thing. I just crawled it along the bottom and bam, they'd hit it.

Then I noticed there were quit a few fish surfacing so I tied on my Norman Top Dollar in the nutter shad color and caught about a two-pounder. Hope to get back out ASAP. Can't wait to throw that hollow belly again. It's definitely time for swimbaits again.

August 5, 2008 - I braved the heat and went over to Watson Park yesterday and managed to catch some. I started out throwing a Red Eye Shad and caught one on my second cast ,just after it banged into a rock he smacked it. Then just before dark I tied on a new bait I just got called "Top Dollar" by Norman. It's a cross between a Zara Spook and a popper. I picked off two fishing it fairly aggressive. One may have gone 2 1/2 pounds. They were all caught on the south side about an hour before dark right on the bank.

July 29, 2008 - I made it back out Sunday. Went over to my buddy's girlfriend's parent's house on Ridge Road. Started out with my Rick Clunn 1.5 in the Copper Green. I managed to catch a couple real nice ones real quick off a patch of rip rap bangin' the bait off the orcks.

Then I tied on a Red Eye Shad and caught one rippin' up off the bottom. That seemed to be the onlyt way they wanted it. I would rip it up and let it fall to the bottom then when it hit the bottom I'd rip it again. All I'd feel was the slightest tick and he'd be on there.

Well, I hope to get out to Buffalo Park this evening. Hopefully I'll have a good pattern put together so you can go out and catch a few nice fish.

July 21, 2008 - Well I finally made it back out to my secret spot Saturday evening. I know it's been forever since I posted anything. All I can say is girls drive me nuts.

Anyway, my buddy and I got there about 6:30 and by 6:45 I probably had caught six. All came on a Rat'L'Trap in the chrome/black color in a 1/4-ounce size. They seem to hit it every time I ripped it out of the grass. My buddy caught a couple on a Bomber crank bait and a few other on the new chartreuse sx shad Thin N by Norman. He seemed to be just steadily cranking it and they'd whack it about five feed away from the bank.

If I were you, I would be throwing a rattle bait and slowly cranking it along the bottom. Every time you come in contact with a piece of structure rip it out of there. That is when they seem to hit it. Be prepared to lose a few, it's real easy to do fishing this particular way, but if the bait isn't banging off rocks/brush piles you won't catch nearly as many fish.

Well, good luck. Hope to post another report tomorrow. going to go to Watson Park this evening and try my Trap there.

July 7, 2008 - Well, I went over to Watson Park yesterday. I started out on the south end of the park and flipped a black/blue jig around the rocks and managed to catch two. One was a pretty nice fish. It may have gone three pounds. then I went over to the northwest side and threw my spook and caught one more. I should have caught two but the little sucker just wouldn't eat it. He kept punting it out of the water. If I were you, I'd go there and fish the south end. That is where I've seemed to have my best luck. topwater works real well right before dark. Remember, Watson's a sand pit so your more natural looking baits seem to excel. Good luck.

July 1, 2008 - Hey everybody, I'm back. Well I finally made it out yesterday to Buffalo Park with a buddy of mine. I managed to catch a couple. The first one I caught was on a swim bait rippin' it over and through the hydrilla. Then I tied on my Spro frog and fished on top the moss. The fish seemed to be sitting right on the edges of the grass. Every time they'd hit it, it would be right before it made the transition from moss/grass to open water.

I also talked with a couple guys there and they said they have been catching the heck out of the catfish right before dark on Wicked Sticky and Sonny's.

June 21, 2008 - Sorry there hasn't been reports for a while. I've been sicker than a dog. I'm hopefully gonna make it out Sunday. Gonna try to talk my dad into going with me over to Buffalo Park. I hear it's super low (about the only body of water that's still low). I'm either gonna use a topwater frog like Spro's Bronzeye Jr. or a good ole 4/5" swimbait in the natural perch color. To me, that's probably one of my best baits for Buffalo Park. Well, I'm goin' fishing. Check back for further reports.

June 12, 2008 - South Wichita - I made it over to the "mystery pond" yesterday evening. I only caught two. I started out with my good ol' little balsa bomber and caught one within y first couple casts. I surely thought I'd pick off at least a couple more, but I finally gave up and tied on my Skitter Pop and managed to catch one more. Probably would have caught more if I'd had more light left. Trust me, the top water bite is definitely on. Final hour of daylight can be nuts right about now.

June 11, 2008 - South Wichita - Sorry this is late. I wrote it on the sixth, but was waiting to get a photo from a friend of mine. I went back over to the "mystery pond" and whacked them on a popper. I probably caught at least ten. Was only there for the final hour or so of daylight. As for how I was fishing the popper. I would pop it fairly aggressive and they would just hammer it just about right after it hit the water. Hope to hit some other water this week. If I ever get the photo, I'll post it.

June 2, 2008 - South Wichita - Went to my south Wichita "mystery pond" on Sunday. I noticed lots of little fry in schools along the banks feeding in the grass. That made me think of using a prop bait like a Tiny Torpedo or a little buzz bait because during this time they really seem to excel.

The little props barely turning water somewhat mimics those little schools of bait fish. ended up catching a couple on a Tiny Torpedo and the the majority came on a little 1/8 oz buzz bait. All the fish were about 1 - 2 pounds. Occasionally I'll catch one 3 -4 pounds, but of course not when I have a camera.

May 29, 2008 - Buffalo Park - Well I gave Buffalo Park a try yesterday. Started out with the new Bass Magic swimbaits and caught two on the east side cranking fairly fast over the top of the submerged grass and hydrilla.. Then I tried a Lake Fork Ring Fry rigged weightless just dragging it real slow and caught one more.

I talked to a few people there and they said they have been chatching the heck out of catfish on Sonny's rigged and weightless.

May 27, 2008 - Watson Park - Well I finally made it to Watson Park Saturday evening. I got there about 6:00 and started out with a jig b3ecause I figured they'ed be on the banks or at I'd least see a few. Well there wasn't really too many to be seen but I still caught two. Then I tied on a Rick Clunn 1.5 Wake Bait and managed to pick off a couple more.

May 24, 2008 - South Wichita - I made it out for an hour or so yesterday. I started with a Bomber Fat Free Shad and caught five "rippin' it" as fast as I could. Then I changed up to the good ol' 4" Hula Grub and caught three more swimming it. None of them were very big (1-2 pounders), but they were fun to catch.

May 23, 2008 - South Wichita - Caught a nice crappie on 4" Chomper Hula Grub while bass fishing. Did well on bass on spinnerbaits and Lake Fork Ring Frys also.
