Youth Team Kansas Takes 4th in Delaware
Kansas angler takes National title
The Kansas Youth Team fished the Nanticoke tidal river
in Laurel Delaware. The river was almost high tide when
they blasted off at 7 am, it still had about a foot and half to
go, then by the time the 3 o'clock weigh in it had fallen 4ft.

Most of the kids took the information they had from the adults
and what they had learned in one day of pre-fishing (current was the
key).

All six anglers caught fish, Sam Randles, Chelsey McDonald, Cassidy Cox
accounted for 8 fish but none of them were big enough to weigh.

Ryan Smith, Will Skucius, James Hoover brought in the teams 11 keepers
for a team weight of 16.75.

There was only 5 limits brought in, Ryan and Will had 2 of the 5

Will Skucius of Sterling Ks. 5 fish limit weighed 5.96 and was good for
5th. Ryan Smith of Maize Ks. 5 fish limit weighed 9.01 and crowned Jr.
Bassmaster National Champion.

He beat out a youth from Vermont who had 8.99.

The team event top 5 went like this:

Team Ontario / Canada took top honors with 21.01
Team Delaware took 2nd with 20.32
Team New Jersey took 3rd with 17.06
Team Kansas took 4th with 16.75
Team Ohio took 5th with 14.08

The Team all got plaques for 4th place, the kids really put it together
themselves since none of the youths fish with a boater from their own state. They were at the mercy of a youth from another state and a boater from another state.
