"Continuing to host premier events
is our top priority," said Tim Martin of C.A.S.T. "Competitive
crappie fishing is growing and we're seeing many really good
upcoming teams giving the veterans increased competition, which
is great for the sport. In order to continue that trend C.A.S.T.
will guarantee $40,000 in cash prizes for the 2004 season, an
increase of 33% over 2003. We also reduced the cost of membership
by half or more and held entry fees at $150 to achieve our goal
of anglers' winning more and spending less."
The Classic on June 25-26, 2004 features
a guaranteed cash award of $10,000 for first place with awards
available through 20th place with a full field. Ranger Boats
will again return with their Ranger Cup Crappie program to award
the top finishing Ranger Boat owner at the classic making qualifications
a premium since a maximum of only one hundred and seventy-five
teams will receive a classic invitation. Qualifications are awarded
to the top 10 finishing teams, the top finishing Male/Female
team and Adult/Youth team at each qualifying event. The top 10
Southern Pro Crappie Sticks National Points teams also receive
an invitation. In cases where a team has already qualified, C.A.S.T.
will bump down until all possible qualifications are awarded.
Anglers will compete throughout the season
for the tour's prestigious Southern Pro Crappie Sticks National
Points Champion-of-the-Year title, which carries with it cash
and prizes including an invitation to the Classic. In each of
the tour's qualifying events, 100 points are awarded for a win,
99 points are awarded for second, 98 points are awarded for third,
and so on. Anglers also receive bonus points for winning a tournament
and by catching the Garmin Big Crappie at the event. Point Champions
will be determined based on their best four finishes during the
season. In cases of a tie, the tied team's 5th best finish, then
6th best finish and so on are added until the tie is broken.
If tie is not broken based on events, the tie will be broken
by the team's largest crappie weighed during the season. The
