Grand Lake Reports

December 7, 2003 - Grand River - My friend Jeff and I spent part of his 40th birthday fighting a very strong wind while tring to catch some White Bass just north of Ft Gibson. Due to the inability to keep the boat over the schools of fish our success rate was not real good. We only got about 16 Whites before calling it an early day. Jeff claims we could have caught more fish if I had not spent so much time fighting the 30.5 lb spoonbill on my 5 foot 2-6 lb ultralight Premier by St. Croix and Shimano Stradic spooled with 6 lb mono. I have included a picture of Jeff presenting the fish just after he heaved the baby into the boat.

October 21, 2003 - Texoma - Striper fishing at Lake Texoma is great! Gizzard and Threadfin shad are both producing limits of fish. On calm days, drifting in shallow water, 20-feet and less is working well. On windy days, anchor on ledges in about thirty-feet of water. Leader size should be less than 15 lb. test. Doc Walker

July 10, 2003 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - We fished this morning. It was a topwater only trip and it turned out great. We caught fish up to 10 lbs. on saltwater series Storm Chug Bugs. Concentrate on the lower lake area. Work the baits with a fast steady retrieve. DO NOT set the hook when you see the fish boil at the lure, as you will often jerk the bait away from the fish. DO wait until you feel the strike to set the hook. Pencil Poppers and Near Nuthin style baits are also working well.

May 19, 2003 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide This is Jim and Carol Altergott, and friends, from Wichita, KS. These fish were caught on live shad on May 19th, 2003. Later, Doc Walker

May 12, 2003 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - May fishing is always good, but, this year is proving to be fantastic. We limited very early this morning with fish ranging from 2 to 9 lbs. The fish are on the ledges. Best depths are 25-40 feet. Rigging is the same as in my last report. The picture is of Steve Frederick of Wichita Kansas.

April 21, 2003 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - The picture is of Bill Freidline of Wichita, KS - Fishing with threadfin shad is starting to dominate the striper scene at Lake Texoma. Limits have been relatively easy to come by with occasional fish in the 10 to 18 lb. range. We are concentrating on creeks and shallow flats, drifting in 5 to 20-feet of water. Personally, I am rigging with two-ounce egg sinkers, #4 kahle hooks and relatively light leader line, 12-14 lb. test. Some nice fish are also being caught on topwaters, magnum redfins, on rocky shorelines. This is usually best at sunrise and sunset. Doc Walker, 877-664-2208

April 16, 2003 - Kaw - Mike Cook - Four Lake Guides - I fished Kaw over the weekend for crappie and bombed. It was a muddy mess. Fished El Dorado too and did very well on walleye again. Same pattern as before. Still only catching males. Mike

March 22, 2003 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - Long-lining is working well. Our best fish today was 10 lbs., however, the fish quality is running small overall. We are dragging deep-diving thundersticks on ledges adjacent to the Red and Washita river channels and major creek channels. We are running 15-25 feet of water, 150 to 200 feet behind the boat depending on depth.

Fire-tiger has been the color of choice, with Smokey Joe working well on cloudy days.

Bait fishing (live shad) has worked well the past couple of days in shallow water. One of my partners pulled a nice stringer this morning on live bait.

God Bless our troops! Later, Doc Walker 877-664-2208

Feb. 10, 2003 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide -Jug lining for monster blue cats is in full swing. On Saturday, Feb. 8 we caught numerous cats up to sixty pounds. Set your jugs in forty to sixty-feet of water. We are using live shad, but, cut shad works almost as well. We are setting our jugs in forty to sixty-feet of water on the main body of the lake.

Jan. 26, 2003 - Pretty Water Lake - Hello Angler,
I am new to your website and enjoy Okla. reports. Here's a new one for those avid trout anglers near my home. Pretty Water Lake which is regularly stocked with nice size Rainbow and Golden trout. I just started fishing this venue this winter after hearing about all the fun folks are having catching these prestigious fish. The season runs from Oct. thru Mar. and let me tell you we are catching fish. I have spent at least a dozen trips this winter and for the most part had a blast. The limit is 5 and of those trips I limited about 8-9 times. Fish up to near 6lbs. I have witnessed. Yellow , Orange, and Red Powereggs seem to be the best bank option with Ruby Red minnows and spinners doing well for trollers. I hate to hide this great little fishery considering most die off during warm to hot months. Keep up the good work! and if like more reports from me I would enjoy sending them for I fish year round but e! njoy fishing for most all game fish. Thank You,

Tim Beatty - Tulsa, Ok.

Jan. 10, 2003 - Arkansas River near Tusa - Thursday afternoon I caught 7 Sauger using jigs with white 2" curly tails or chartreuse Walleye Assassins. For a short time they were biting fast. On my fourth and fifth cast I caught fish. Another guy caught a small 2 lb wiper. I was told that a lot of large stripers and catfish are pulled out of the fast water below the spillway. There is a walkway across the river very near 31 street. You can fish either side of the river easily. Chris

Jan. 8, 2003 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide -The mild winter has maintained a relatively high water temperature, which, has kept the stripers active. Fishing has been good on the lower end of the lake. Sassy shads, road-runners and live shad have all been producing fish. "Chasing the Birds" has been productive, however, if you find the fish stacked up anywhere, give them a try.

Also, due to the mild winter, most of the ducks are apparently in Kansas and Nebraska. I am glad y'all have had a mild winter, but, this is two years in a row the ducks have stayed north of us. In spite of all of that, we have had many good shoots.

Jug lining for monster blue cats starts to peak in Feb. Fish up to 85 lbs. are not that uncommon.

If you want to catch a trophy (15lb plus) Texoma striper, you cannot beat March long-lining.

November 15, 2002 - Texoma - Submitted by Bill Bannister, Guide - Lake Texoma, water clear, normal level, 61 degrees. Stripers excellent to 8 lbs. on live shad, slabs and sassy shads. Black Bass fair on plastic worms and spinnerbaits. Crappie fair on jigs around boat houses over brush piles. Catfish good on cut shad.
Email - bannist9@aol.com

October 21, 2002 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - Fall fishing is in full swing! Fishing has been good to excellent on live shad and down-riggers. We have been "chasing the birds" on the flats, as well as anchoring on ledges. Fish quality has been good on some days and onlly fair on others. Fish quality typically improves in November and December. Also, duck season is just around the corner!

Concentrate on the lower end of the Lake through December. December fishing can be fantastic--very little boat traffic and often very fast action.

Doc Walker ~ southernokguide@brightok.net ~ 877-664-2208

August 16, 2002 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - The fish are on top everywhere! The only problem is, some of them are on the small side. However, Bruce Roth, a client and friend of mine from Wichita, KS, had our way with stripers on top on 8/13. We caught approximately 20 plus stripers, of which ten were nice keepers in the 18-22 inch range. We finished out our limit on down-riggers, running 30&35 feet with double jig rigs. Concentrate on the lower end of the Lake from Alberta Creek, south, and from the North Island, east. southernkguide@brightok.net

June 26, 2002 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - We are in our typical summer pattern. Most of the fish are located in the central and southern areas of the Lake, (from the North Island east to the dam and from Alberta Creek south to the dam). We caught fish this morning on top-waters (salt-water series chug bugs) and finished up down-rigging with double-jig rigs running and 30 and 35 feet. When the fish are stacked up well, vertical spooning with Hopkins and babes spoons, 1.5-2 ounce produces fish quite well. The fishing is great, give us a call at 877-664-2208. southernokguide@brightok.net

June 23, 2002 - Konawa - My friend and I were at Konawa lake at daybreak the 18th of July. Water Temp was 91 and we didn't expect much. We went home happy that day!!! WE each caught 20 sand bass and three nice Hybrid striper 2 around 5 pounds and one rounding 10. We used slabs and shad. Fishing may seem slow but its all about being there at the right time. Go catch the Big One. Chris Combs

June 23, 2002 - Texoma - Beau Proctor, son of Scooter Proctor of Norman Oklahoma, recently caught this quality Texoma striper all by himself. Doc Walker with Southern Oklahoma Guide Service. 877-664-2208.

May 17, 2002 - Lake Eucha - lake eucha. in the upper creek chug bug around the lake spinner Band buzz bait and trick worm. wesley potter

April 20, 2002 - Grand Lake - Jim , this is a photo of Dave and Don. We fished
the Twin Bridges, area of Grand Lake OK. We
snagged nine bills in the two days we fished.
the largest fish weighed 76 pounds. The smallest weighed 48. We quit fishing at 9:30 the second day. We were tired and had more than enough fish and fishing, Ha!! See another photo of a 75# spoonbill in our photo gallery.

April 20, 2002 - Grand Lake - We fished Grand Lake of the Cherokees on 4/18-19/02 from the Red 11 Port and NE down the lake (NE of Sailboat bridge). The black bass were very tough to find and to catch, but those that found the beds in 10' or less of water caught a few weighing 2-4 lb. Most of these were taken using bubble gum colored flukes, TX rigged, or small shad-sized fire-tiger crankbaits. The flukes had to be fished very, very slowly. We had no luck on black bass around the docks with plastics, cranks, nor with spinner baits. Bluegills were abundant against the rock cliffs near the Elk River Cafe using 1/8 oz. jigs and black twister tails. We saw a lot of folks catching crappie off of docks and near timber at the banks. Most of these were taken using blue and white and red and white tube jigs. The water temp. ran 68F in the coves to mostly 66F on the main lake. Winds were 15-25 MPH out of the south and it was cloudy to partly cloudy. Air temps were 70F-82F those days. Bruce Barrett

April 15, 2002 - Grand Lake - From Martin Landing and Guide Service - Anglers who find the black bass are doing very well, but as always the ones who are not on the right pattern are not. Try Carolina rigging small green pumpkin lizards, burning small crankbaits or sight fishing with small while jigs for bedding fish. Fishing has been very good for spawning crappie, especially from mid-lake down. They are on the bank big time. There are still some white bass being caught in the upper rivers.

March 24, 2002 - McGee Creek - Chislom Trail Bass Club Fished Mcgee Creek on very bad conditions But some angler found fish.. The club caught 54.64 lbs of fish in a one day outing
Brad McCaffree won and also took big bass with a nice 20.5 inch fish
 Ron Balding took second
 Rick Runk took third
 Shane Pickett took fourth
 John Young took Fith..

Everyone fished well It was just very tough conditions The lake was up 10 feet and falling not vaery stable conditions at all..

March 6, 2002 - Ft. Cobb - I would like to report that the fishing at Ft. Cobb lake has went from one of the best kept secrets to a total waste of time. There are NO bass left in the lake and once on the water you have to fight off the personal water crafts long enough to get a pole in the water. If you are thinking of fishing in Ft. Cobb lake take it from someone who lives there. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME IT IS NOT WORTH IT.

December 17, 2001 - Texoma - Got into the stripers again on Texoma last Friday. Birds were everywhere showing the way. We caught em on glow sassy shads at the
Willis bridge. See the pictures and details at: http://www.geocities.com/metromonte

Sept. 14, 2001 - Pine Creek - I am a member of a small bass club here in Oklahoma, and on September 8th & 9th, we had a tournament at Pine Creek. We pre-fished on Friday, and did well, using white with gold blade buzz baits early in the back cuts and creeks in shallow water. Later we switched to white with a
little bit of blue spinnerbaits with a gold small Colorado and a nickel
willow tandem. All together we caught approx. 15 fish on Friday from
10" to 6 lbs., only two over 3 lbs. though. Friday night, storms rolled
through - LOTSSSSSS of rain - Saturday, we had 5 five to weigh, but all
five were dinks... Saturday night - more storms - LOTSSSS of rain.
Sunday we couldn't get a single fish in the well.

June 3, 2001 - Keystone - Fishing on the north side is dead, shad ar plentiful, on the north side, sand bass are fair, blue cats are fair on cut shad....everything else is slow...

May 5, 2001 - Newt Graham/Keystone --As an avid dam fisherman, I mostly fish below Keystone dam, so I went early this morning, and unfortunatly there wasn't any water being ran, so I packed up and headed for the Newt Graham lock and dam to try my luck, and I done alright, withiin 3 hours i had 3 nice blue cats caught on fresh cut, casting into the rip rap, 2 weighed around 20 lbs. apeice and one wiehged about 10...

May 3, 2001 - Texoma --My Dad (Larry) and I fished Texoma April 26 - 29. We caught a lot of black bass (mostly spots and largemouth) and some nice stripers too. The spots and largemouth were up in the shallows around the docks on small lizards, tubes and straight worms on light spinning tackle. The fish were from 2 - 5
lbs. I broke my line 3 times on dock cables and my Dad had his line broken
once using a light line carolina rigged lizard. I had one spotted bass that
must have been on a bed under a dock walkway that I hooked every day we were
there and landed only once. I did catch one really nice smallmouth (~ 3
lbs) too in 10' on a carolina rigged lizard. We also caught several nice
stripers in the 3 - 5 lbs range trolling deep diving stick baits on light
line. Live bait was hard to come by. The guides were even having
difficulty getting enough shad, they were having to buy bait. Subsequently,
we did not do any live bait fishing for stripers. Fish were biting all day
long, but were definitely better in the morning and evening. Tony Cook

Apr. 16, 2001
- Kerr --Hi , Crappie is good on Kerr Lake in Oklahoma around Stick ups and weedbeds , early Morning & evenings best , can catch crappie all during the day but very slow from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Also catfish are good on shad and chicken liver , in the coves Thanks Frank

Apr. 8, 2001 - Longmier --Slow overall. Longmire is a small lake near Pauls Valley, OK. Read about the lake

Oct. 17, 2000 - Lake Texoma - My sons and I fished lake Texoma just before the storms hit last Sunday evening. One big striper got away but he had to break off 24lb spiderwire first. One small one made it into the live well. We had
several hits but no more hookups before the lightning reared its ugly
head and chased us off the lake. Monte

June 1, 2000 - Great Salt Plains - Went down to fish the salt plains. Caught 27 in a couple of hours and then Ben had motor problems and we had to quit. Blow wind blow. Mike Cook - Four Lake Guides

May 3, 2000 - Draper Lake - Submitted by TooRowdy29@aol.com - Me and my wife were out the other day on the east side by 104th St entrance and really got into a big mess of crappie. We went through about 3 dozen minnows in about 30 mins. Had about 40 keepers by the time we left. That's not including the small ones we threw back..I would say the crappie fishing is excellent. I'll send photos when they get developed.

March 19, 2000 - Grand Lake - Submitted by Brant King - Conditions were as tough as the fishing. Rain, cold temperatures, wind and lack of sun made fishing difficult. The fish that had moved up the last couple weeks, didn't want to bite. Before the water dirtied up, good fish were being caught on rogues. Once the water dirtied, wiggle warts and 6A bomber produced best. Water temps were ranging in the mid 50's, but this past weekend, most had cooled off to the upper 40's in some places. We have 4 keepers on Sunday that weighed a little over 8 pounds. Not great, but at least we caught a few. We caught all of our fish on 45 degree chunk rock banks and bluff ends. I caught a 6 plus Saturday pre-fishing on a wart on a transition bank up the river, but it didn't help during the tournament Sunday! E-mail me if you have any question. lking@altamontks.com

January 11, 2000 - Texoma - Submitted by Jeff Forman The striper and white bass fishing here on Lake Texoma has been fantastic lately! I just wanted to let you know I now have a web page and a new e-mail address.
E-mail is: fishwithjeff@netscape.net
My web page is at: http://fishwithjeff.homestead.com/
Check out the two beauties we caught on 12-29-99!
Thank You
Jeff Forman

May 1, 1999 - Ft. Gibson - Submitted by Timothy I was just reading your fishing report for Oklahoma last updated 4-27-99. The report says that Gibson is only 3 ft. above normal, but it is over 20 ft. above normal. The water is flooded up to about 10 - 20 ft away from the highway. All of the campgrounds and boat ramps are completely underwater. However, we were able to fish just off of the navigation channel into coal creek. The navigation channel seams to be around normal. We didn't catch anything, but the tip is that crappie are biting despite the poor weather conditions and high water.
