26,000 Canada geese, 3,300 whitefronts, and 113,000 snows.

Water level |
1.5 foot below conservation pool. Releases have
been decreased to 300 cfs to hold the lake level near it's wintering
stage at 1' - 2' below conservation pool.. |
Hunting conditions |
Fair. High winds clearing the ice off the lake today.
Boat ramps should be usable with the warm temperatures and
high winds clearing the ice from the lake.
On windy days, the geese are sitting along shorelines.
Geese have been flying out morning (early) and evening. Using
crop fields on private land, WIHA, and on the Wildlife Area.

Geese - Good field hunting and pass shooting
on windy days when birds are flying low. Success rate was good
this past weekend, geese have been decoying. |
Comments |
Hunters have been violating the Granite Creek Refuge trying
to find north shore hunting. Some tore down signs before trespassing.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE THE REFUGE LINES ARE BEFORE HUNTING!!
The State Park allows hunting from its shoreline in non-refuge
areas and the Marina Cove.

SPRING MIGRATION ON! 150,000 light geese
resting in the refuge and in Gun Club Marsh. A handful of mallards
sitting with the geese.DUCK AND DARK GOOSE SEASON CLOSED. |

Nearly all small and large marshes are full.
The youth/ novice areas Puddler and Ringneck Marshes have good
water. |
Hunting conditions |
Areas open and mostly ice-free. |
Expected hunting success |
Fair. Migration just beginning. Good walk-in
access. |

FREE DAILY HUNT PERMITS REQUIRED FOR ALL
HUNTING ON THE AREA. PERMITS AVAILABLE AT THE INFORMATION CENTERS.
Hunters will again be required to fill out a daily use permit
to report their hunting activities while on the area. The top
portion of the two-part permit must be filled out and returned
to the survey station prior to hunting and the bottom portion
kept with the hunter to record hunting activity. After the hunt
the bottom portion is also returned to the survey station where
the permits will be collected and information recorded to assist
managers with improving the area.Refuge in effect from Oct. 1
- Mar. 1 in the northeast corner of Gamekeeper Marsh. |

SPRING MIGRATION ON! LET THE CONSERVATION
ORDER BEGIN! 350,000 light geese in the area. Dark goose
and duck season CLOSED. These waterfowl are resting in
the refuge in the east and middle of the reservoir. |

Reservoir is 1.0 ft below conservation pool. |
Hunting conditions |
Reservoir is 100% open today, back of coves
still iced in. Some willows still flooded. Some mud flats on
shoreline. All boat ramps open. |

Poor for geese on the area. Some tough hunting
for decoy-shy geese on private land. Hunter activity light. |

Refuge in effect October 1 - March 1. A No Hunting
Refuge is located east of a line from the cabin area boat ramp
on the north shore, southeast to a point on the south shore 2700
feet west of the outlet structure or south end of the dam. Fishing
is allowed in the western end of the refuge from the Twin Coves
Trailer Area in Lovewell State Park west to the refuge line.Take
a youth or novice hunting during this coming season. DAILY
HUNT PERMITS REQUIRED-AVAILABLE ON SITE AT INFORMATION CENTERS
AND PRAIRIE DOG CREEK AND WHITE ROCK CREEK AREA ROADS. |

Remember the refuge area on the northwest part of the lake
is closed to hunting except by Special Hunt permit Oct 1-March
1.

ATTENTION HUNTERS: New for 2008 is the implementation of
daily hunting permit system at Webster. See Webster Area News
for complete details of the Hunter Survey Station system.
Refuge modified for current water levels.
Webster 2008-2009 Refuge Map
Refuge in effect November 1 - January 31. All boat ramps are
useable at present, including Old Marina Boat Ramp. See above
link for this year's refuge. The success and response to the
walk-in hunting last year has prompted management to again this
delineate the very western portion of the lake as walk-in/nonmotorized
boat area. Good opportunities present for big and small boats
and walk/wade in.

60% ice cover, but breaking up quickly with
warmer weather. Birds are concentrated on and around open pockets
of water on main body, along north shore from Cooper's Point
to Rocktown to Lucas Point. Waterfowl moving off area mornings
and evenings to private lands. Written permission required to
hunt on private land. |

Comments |
Wilson is in the low plains late duck zone that opens on October
25th. Remember the refuge closes October 1 except for Special
Hunts.
