Konawa Lake number one Oklahoma Lake - eight years running

Go Fishing in Grand Lake Oklahoma and Rent a Grand Lake Vacation Home

December 10, 2004 - Keystone - My cousin ( John ) and I ( Dean ) are avid jug fisherman. We have gone all over Keystone Lake looking for the best spots. We have pulled out some nice fish. A dozen or so flat heads, and countless blues. Recently, with the weather like how it is, the fishing pattern hasnt changed much, besides more catches. Last weekend, the end of Nov. we set out ten jugs, using large shad. Out of the ten jugs, we had set ups on all but three. On one jug, we caught two cats, a flat and a blue. the normal sized blue for us is 15 pounds + . We caught one a while back that weighed 26 pounds. For good bait, wait till the Keystone damn has a few gates open, and and go on the south side. might as well bring a small pole and catch some nice sand bass while your at it! set the jugs between 18 and 25 feet of water. I like to set jugs in water with a rough current, blues like the current. use only three hooks, one dead bottom, one in the middle, then one towards the top. iI will even cut the shads throat and tail, make em bleed a little. Good luck juggers! Dean Martin and John Barker.

September 2, 2004 - I am trying to locate a vendor for live shad in the Oklahoma City, OK. The city ordinance prohibits the use of casting nets or I would catch my own, like my Father used to do. If there is a place where I can buy them I will be able to use my Father's proven technique for catching large catfish with rod and reel. Please respond to my home e-mail at pahdocoj@cox.net.

July 13, 2004 - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - Top-waters, verticle spooning and down-rigging are all producing fish. However, fish are also being caught still on live shad.

Top-waters: Salt water series chug-bugs and near-nuthin type lures have been the baits of choice. Color does not matter, but make sure the bucktail is replaced often. Strikes will go down considerably with no hair or plastic on the back hook as that is what they think is the small threadfin shad they are pursuing.

Spoons: 1.5 - 2.25 ounce Hopkins, as well as various "slab" type baits.

Down-riggers: Double jig rigs.

PS!
Jack Harris and Bruce Roth, both of Wichita, KS, brought this young man down to Texoma in May, 2004. This is what it is all about!

July 10-11, 2004 - Grand Lake - Main lake points. Fish are suspended in about 12 ft of water. Flipping Black/Blue Pro Model jigs with Smoke and Blue Craws and Chartreuse Brush Hogs. Some fish are in the willows. Scott Bledsoe

June 19, 2004 - Eufaula Dam - Submitted by Outdoor Adventures Guide Service We had a great week of fishing this week below Eufaula Dam. With very little water released the conditions were great for Hugh stripers, With fish surfacing in the morning hours. It was a site to behold. Imagine seeing hundreds of stripers exploding the water chasing shad and herring. It was enough to get any fisherman's blood boiling. Outdoor Adventures Guide Service teamed up with one of Oklahoma's best known Striper guides J. B. Bennett of Okmulgee. J B, runs Jig Blue Guide Service. Best known for winter time striper fishing with light tackle. This week has been one of the best weeks for striper fishing in along time with more large stripers caught than we can remember. Catching 5 fish limits each day of stripers 20 to 30lbs with one whopper that weighed in at 38lbs. It was truly a great week. Cedrick Smith of Morris landed his first striper, a nice 10 pounder not bad for a young fisherman that just turned 10 years old, Catfish, are feeding on shad and worms using a float with a 6ft leader with many fisherman catching lots of blues. The hardest thing this week was finding live bait. But if you could get your hands on a large herring you were surely on your way to landing a nice striper, White Bass are still hitting slabs and small jigs on the humps in the main lake. It looks like its going to be another great week of fishing so if you get the chance get a big one!

June 10, 2004 - Eufaula Lake - Submitted by Outdoor Adventures Guide Service
Another wet and windy day. Oklahoma's weather this weeks has been very wet and windy. Out on Eufaula Lake White Bass are still biting great. Most of the best fishing is in the main lake. With fish holding on humps in about 30ft of water. Were getting great results on slabs and small jigs even picking up a few hybrids in the deeper water along side of dropoffs.
Crappie fishing is good along boat docks and bridge pillars. With minnows and purple and white jigs producing the most fish. With all the rain lake levels are on the rise. This can only mean great fishing in the next few weeks. With summer in full swing Eufaula Lake is the place to be to relax or to enjoy a day of incredible fishing.. Larry

May 25, 2004 - Grand Lake - Submitted by 'fishinfarmer' - Went back to Grand Lake on May 21, 22, and 23.
My wife and I went out with Ivan Martin from Martin's Landing Friday
afternoon and once again he didn't let us down. We kept 60 White Bass that
weighed from 1 to 2 lbs and threw back a lot more. Ivan does a great job
keeping track of the fish and knowing where to find them. Wife and I went
back to Ivan's spots and boated another 35 on Saturday and 25 on Sunday.
Was real windy on the lake but the water was not rough on Elk River. Had a
big fish fry Saturday night and still stocked the freezer. We were fishing
on the Elk River, near the Highway 10 bridge in 15 to 20' of water on the
ledge where it dropped off to the river bed. Water temp was 75 degrees and
we were using 1/4oz jigs with blue/white shads and grubs, mostly jigging
off the bottom. If you want to catch fish, call Ivan. He's one of the best
guides I've ever used. When I want to catch fish, I go out with him for 1/2
day then go back to same places the next day or two without him. I've told
him that's what I do and he doesn't care. He also posts a super Grand Lake
fishing report and keeps it updated 2 or 3 times a week. You can find it on
the web at www.grandfishingreport.com

Stayed at a place called Blue Bluff Harbor on Elk River. They are family
owned. Not fancy but cabins were clean and beds were fine. Had nice boat
slips available. At one time they had a cafe and fuel at their dock but
don't have them this year. Prices are reasonable. 2 bedroom cabin is $80 a
night plus $5 for a slip. They have a web site at www.bluebluffharbor.com
if you're interested. Good luck to all.

May 16, 2004 - Tenkiller - SAND BASS BITING ON CHARTREUSE AND WHITE RIVER JIGS OF TENKILLER FEMALES ARE STARTING TO MOVE UP RIVER AND ARE IN A FEEDING FRENZY OVER 100 CAUGHT THURSDAY MORNING MAY 14 FROM 630 AM TO 1030 AM

May 4, 2004 - Grand Lake - My daughter and I went down to Grand Lake on April 24th and slaughtered the White Bass. Went out with Ivan Martin from Martin's Landing on Monkey Island and he did a super job. Rained all day Friday so we didn't go out but Saturday was only overcast and we hit the lake. In 4 hrs we caught 60 Whites that weighed 1 to 2 lbs and threw back about 20 more. Quite often we had 3 on at a time. We also caught 12 Crappie that were 12" or more. Super day. We were using 1/4 oz jigs with blue/white minnows. Ivan runs a nice
resort and is a great guide but the beds in his rooms are the worst I've
slept on. Next time I'll take an air mattress. (Editor's note: Sorry you found the bed uncomfortable. We've stayed there and were pleased with ours)

April 5, 2004 - Skiatook - Watkins Guide Service fishing report - April 3 2004 - The fishing is getting better and better as the water is warming. surface temp is 57 degrees and the bite is on. Saturday we caught 27 fish from 4 to 8 lbs. The fish are very agressive right now. Book your trip and get in on some fast and furious hybrid fishing at Skiatook lake.

April 5, 2004 - Sooner - we fished 4-4-04 did fairly well .we had 7.95 bass. 12 ils. stringer.we fished ark city ffa tournament.over 200 ils caught sunday. had a great time.

March 18, 2004 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - Long-lining for stripers is in full swing. This pecture is of Harold Stafford and Bill Freidline, both of Wichita, KS. The fish were taken 3/15/04. As is typical for March, we are dragging deep-diving thundersticks about 200 feet behind the boat. We are working 18 - 25 foot ledges adjacent to creek or river channels. Water temperature is about 50 degrees and climbing. With the warm weather we are having, black bass fishing should pick up real soon!

February 29, 2004 - Texoma - Submitted by Doc Walker, Guide - Jug-lining for catfish has been ok! We have caught fish up to 45 lbs., but, not the monsters we caught last year. I did have one fish on last week that pulled my jug at least a mile off my jug line. As fate would have it, we got the fish next to the boat, and, it broke the leader line. It was conservatively 80 lbs. plus! Longlining for stripers is looking GOOD! Last week, I took my son and his friend out for a couple of hours. We hit one spot and pulled all our 20 inch fish. They ranged from 8 to 15 lbs! Needless to say, it has me pumped about long-line season. Tight-lines, Doc Walker 877-664-2208
