At 12/23/2006 11:08 AM, Anonymous said...Melvern- 12-22-06 We believe we are fishing the wrong end of the lake. The keepers we are catching are nice fish(11-13") but we are finding no large groups of shad. We are catching our fish 19-26' deep. Wind was out of NW 9-16mph, water temp. 42 degrees. We kept 24 crappie.

December 17, 2006 - Tuttle Creek Tuttle Creek: For the week of Dec 11th (mon thru sat) the Channel Cat fishing at Tuttle Creek was extremely good for this time of year. I found large fish off of the river channel drop off's above Stockdale. All fish were between 3 and 12 lbs. They seem to find large bait quicker so you had to fish open bail. Feed them some line, waters cold and fish are not agressive. They have been eating good, there fat!! Fresh shad is the best and the hardest to come by. I was fishing by boat but there are a few spots you can bank fish and hit the old river channel. If the lake doesn't freeze over, you should be able to catch these fish all winter long. As I've said before the lake is full of 5 to 13 lb fish. If the water temp stays 36 to 40 these fish will move around looking for food. Usually when you get one bite the other pole gets one also, there moving around in schools this time of year. If you pick the good weather days, you can still enjoy a days fishing. RKH

Chances are that Kiowa State Fishing Lake & Goodman State Fishing Lake are either frozen or on the verge of being frozen as they are smaller bodies of water. Scott State Lake stocks Rainbow Trout and probably isn't frozen as it is a little larger. Thanks!

I didn't know about the spring and haven't really discovered it myself. The max depth I pretty much have found throughout the lake is about five feet. Some six feet around the rock piers. One spot did find nine feet at one time. Also remember the lake is two feet low. I caught my fish mostly on the far end of the lake where you have to go in at the first entrance. Caught two small pike in that area. Fun lake, but sometimes can be challenging.

Has anybody fished Ford County Lake, Coldwater, or Clark State Fishing Lake lately. I have to go to Dodge next week, and I am thinking about fishing at one of the three places for a couple of hours. Just trying to decide which one to go to. Never been to Ford County Lake, or Clark State Fishing Lake. I have been to Coldwater lake about 8 years ago. Didn't catch much then though, but it is a nice lake for a community lake. Good for boating too. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any input would be great. Thanks.

Trout have been good at Pratt Centenial Pond. Wolly buggers seems best but I've been fishing with a second fly tied on the hook bend, 18" below the bugger. That is usually a #16 b ead-head nymph.

Thanks for the input. About how big and deep is the lake? Do you know. Good fishing to you!

Kingman has a spring that comes up under the surface. It attracts the pike in the heat of summer (cooler water)and in winter (warmer water). The spring is in the northeast corner of the lake. If you have a temperature gauge on your boat, you can tell in summer by the cooler surface temp and the clearer water. I would guess that in winter, the temperature gauge should show warmer water. At any rate, that's where the pike will likely be hanging out.

November 28, 2006 - Ice Fishing Question - Does anyone know of a good place to take a kid ice fishing in Kansas. Cheney fishing was generally good for whites, stripers or wipers. But the last few years have been horrible at best. I'm looking for another lake that I can find walleyes, crappie, whites, wipers or stripers. Would consider farm ponds. I've been to Kanopolis, Marion and Glen Elder last year. They were also slow. Any help would be appreciated.

Good luck fishing,

Jeff

November 28, 2006 - Big Hill - Submitted by Curt Graves

Air temp: hi's 68-70.
Water temp: 50-52 below bridge; 47-50 above bridge.
Water clarity: 2-3' below bridge; 1-2' above bridge.
Wind: S at 5-15 mph.

Both days, the smallmouth bit best for me. I was catching them on a home-made football jig on rocky points in the lower end of the lake. My Quantum PT rod and Accurist PT reel spooled with fluorocarbon line allowed me to feel the sensitive bites. Sometimes I set the hook on a fish because I simply wasn't feeling the jig bounce against the rocks.

I did catch a couple of short largemouth on the jig and a small crankbait above the bridge as well. As well, I caught 2 small largemouth spooning. I was able to watch my spoon as well as changes in cover & schools of bait on my Lowrance electronics.

If you would like to test ride the new 2007 ProCraft, give me a call. This is quite a ride and Albers does a good job of working with their clients.

*THE DISTRICT #58 ABA ON BIG HILL FOR DECEMBER 4, 2006 HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER!

Good fishing,
Curt

November 26, 2006 - Kingman SFL - 11-26-06 Decided to give Kingman a third try for the year. Also wanted to get the boat out with the nice weather. I knew it would be windy, but only way to get better at dealing with the wind is fishing in the wind. Boating went really well. No problems this time... well forgot about the drain plug and got my shirt a little wet, but I actually had a spare in the car. Didn't get much on the main body... okay all I got was snagging a shad. So I put my boat on the trailer since I wanted to get out of the wind since the clouds completely came in. Lily pads are just stems now. I went to my usual area of past the rock pier where the far end of the lake is really shallow and just put on my waders. I went to a strike king 3x zero and caught one bass. Snagged and went back and put on a bass pro stick bait and I chose bubble gum since the water was a little murky. I ended up pulling five more bass in that back area. Went to the river and just wanted to give it a try. And I ended up catching about five more bass from the river where the water was pretty calm. One was a decent size to. Probably about 1.5lb. Biggest was around 2lb. And I just kept with the bubble gum stick bait even in the clear water it worked wonders. My last trip out there for the year went well. Also saw four deer grouped togther. One male and three female. Had fun and tomorrow will be clean up and make sure the boat is ready for the winter since coming up soon we might have some snow. But fish can always be caught so never give up.

ATTENTION CERTAIN ANGLERS FISHING WEBSTER STILLING BASIN: By all means have fun and enjoy the outdoors, say hello to your buddies, ask how they and their families are doing, make new buddies, compare fishing success, and in general enjoy the comradery of relationships both old and newly established, but please PLEASE limit your conversations to a few words followed by LOTS AND LOTS--SAY, AT LEAST THREE HOURS WORTH?--of SILENCE! No one else wants to listen to your entire life's stories, hear what you did the night before, listen to how you limited out in just ten minutes the day before (and you didn't even use any bait!), etc.. As well--and this goes for everyone--in addition to packing out all of your trash when you leave, please take a few moments to pick up at least one item of trash of some idiot's who left before you. Perry Lake on Friday after Thanksgiving. Went to Slough Creek Bridge Area. Several boats out (5 to 8 any given time). Others caught a few crappie in the morning, said they were small. Most boats fishing around the bridge. Afternoon, 2 to 5 we caught 15-20 crappie and sunfish with small tubes, jigs with gold dust crappie nibbles about 2-3 foot under floats. Most fish 5-15 feet from shore on north side under the bridge. All small, only 2 were even 9 inches, which I'm guess is a year away from the legal limit of 10 inches.

We fished at wilson last weekend and caught fish both days striper's eye's & perch, fish were tight to the breaks and on the deep edge.they also seemed to be on the move. we would find perch catch a bunch then they would disapear. Waleye's are tough to find but we caught some, slow down and fish a spot thoroughly. Stripers are active and there are lots of them, after we would catch a bunch we would move to get away from them. spoons and jigs are catching everything the fish don't seem to be to picky. Goodluck and Go to Cheney!

November 11, 2006 - Milford Lake - On wed morning 11/8/06 at 5:30 am and a water temp of 49 I caught a blue cat that weighed 56.2 lbs. I was using a 10" dead shad with the skin pulled off of the sides. On thur morning I caught another blue cat that weighted 53.3 lbs. on a large chunk of golden eye. Both fish were caught in 2 feet of water around Madison and both fish were released. I couldn't get a bite in deep water. That make's 5 big blues over 50 lbs in 2006, 51,52,53,55 and 56. The lake is getting so low that you can't use the boat ramp now. 2007 should produce a fish over 60 lbs. I think there gaining at least 5 lbs per year. We do need some rain to get these lakes back to normal.

Caught my 5th one on that tiny # 18 or 20 nymph about 1430 hrs after arriving about 1000 hrs. Three on nightcrawlers & two on the nymph. Did try # 12 Black Woolly Bugger... had several strikes on it but could not connect. Ran into same problem w/ larger nymph, fish hit and let go. Another gentleman was using cheese & getting strikes. Tried multiple items today but the only things they seemed to want were the nymphs, crawlers & cheese. 2nd gentleman caught 3 before he left and another had 2 when I left about 1730 hrs.

Only thing constant in the whole deal was I did manage to catch my limit each day but weather conditions and such influenced the activity of the fish.

Oh well if it was all cut & dried then it would not be called FISHING

October 19, 2006 - Tuttle Creek and Milford -
With both lakes 5 to 6 feet below pool level now is the time for spotting new locations to fish. Look for new cuts that the current makes when the lake is extremely low. The current will eat out the silt and make new cuts down to hard bottom. Mark all the rock piles, even if there small. Look for gravel bars and there's many on both lakes. Catfish will follow the current lines and they like a hard bottom. The gar and channels will spawn in the rock piles and the white bass will be spawning first after winter on the gravel bars. With Tuttle Creek not backing up in the creeks like it did for many years they now spawn in the gravel bars. Tuttle has many 3 to 4 pound white bass. If you have a GPS, mark as many as you can find. All fish like some sort of cover and they look for food in any spot that might hold bait. I 've caught more fish this year than any other year. Tuttle Creek will offer some excellent fishing next year ,especially channel cat and blue cat. The lake is full of 5 to 13 pound fish. Milford is always good but the largest blue cat should exceed 60 pounds next year. I caught a 51, 52, and 55 pounder this year so you could get lucky and catch that 60 pounder in 2007. If the lakes stay low all winter and fill up in the spring, fish your mud flats. Vegetation and worms and other forms of food will be living on the flats. Just a few suggestions that might help you catch more fish.

October 19, 2006 - Glen Elder - Oct. 13th & 14th great success on white bass 33' of water. Took awhile to find the fish but was worth it.

October 18, 2006 - Glen Elder Response - In regards to all the reteric about current fishing reports, it's allways been my expeience that by the time you read about a hot bite on any body of water, it's usually to late to get in on any of the action. Therefore I try to pay closer attention to the current trends for a particular body of water to use only as a starting point when I'm actually going to fish it. Take into account all the variables that dictate the location and mood of the fish you're after. Has the weather, water conditions, or baitfish loation changed ? Adjust your strategy accourdingly. After all, most reports come from anglers who have spent enough time on the water to figure out what the best pattern is. Not by someone who read about how someone else caught fish. Reports are a good tool to get us started but adjusting your stradegy and achieving success is what makes us all better anglers ! Don't be afraid to experiment or vary from the normal aproach, I catch most of my fish by giving them a look at something different than what everyone else is giving them.

Kanopolis - As for my current report - if you're just looking to get your rod bent, the white bass bite has been on fire at Kanopolis for several weeks. I have found them pretty much all over the lake, but a good starting point would be the Marina Cove. They have literally been stacked in there since late summer. Vertical fishing over or around the brush has been working well as long as you're on or near a break in bottom depth. Good Luck !

October 16, 2006 - Glen Elder Response - I guess I will put my input in. I have fished a same body of water in two days and one day the fishing action would not stop and then the next day I couldn't even catch a bluegill. The only thing I have to say is when you control numerous counties just think of it as a regional manager. They can visit the store in say butler one day and everything is going perfect. Maybe the day the KDWP was there the fishing was on. I have talked to two officers and they seemed rather on the money with what they say. One officer I confirmed his report with other anglers.

I don't have the chance to plan a big trip any where either so yeah it's just a risk, but the other thing is you fish a body of water enough you can catch fish no matter what the scenario is. Otherwise the fishing guides won't be doing too well if they can't find the fish.

My philosophy on fishing is this. You want to catch fish with the most ease... go to farm ponds... That area has tons of ponds in the Fishing atlas up for grabs and I would love to get in that area to fish them. The farm pond I have been going to for 20 years can always give me a bass or two to dozens if you fish it long enough.

When I don't land a single fish I still make my day worthwhile. What else would I be doing? Sitting at home... on the computer or watching a movie. But I just enjoyed a full day outdoors floating in the cool air or wading. Just getting away from city life. That alone is a worthwhile trip.
I have checked other states for reports and some of their wildlife and parks sites don't even have reports posted and usually have to go to landbigfish or other sites to find them.

I do agree though it would be nice to know how often they visit a body of water. I know when it says last updated it just means thats when they typed the reports not when they got the report.

Well enough from me... I think tomorrow I will go do some shore fishing in my waders.

October 14, 2006 - Butler County Watershed - 10-13-06Went bass fishing Friday evening to enjoy the beautiful weather. Fall is my favorite time of the year to fish and this trip did not disappoint. I was excited to use my new crankbait rod and my first two casts I landed an 18 and a 16 inch bigmouth . Couldn't have asked for a better start. The water was glass smooth and the temperature was perfect. The water temp was a steady 62 degrees but very muddy. Had 5 rods rigged but ended up only using my crankin' stick. Fished till dark and ended up with 8 bass and the biggest being a 22 inch hawg with big ol' fat belly on a Bandit 100 Series crankbait. She absolutely engulfed the crankbait! All the fish struck in shallow water (foot to 4 foot deep). Nothin' beats a nice Fall evening for bass fishing. Good luck to all the Kansas Fisherman!

October 14, 2006 - Glen Elder Response - I couldn't agree with you more Jordan. I do believe it's more than sitting back looking for reports then trying to plan your fishing trip around them. I simply put this on there to let fellow fishermen know to be cautious about reading such reports. I was already out there fishing and I made my rounds to the bait store, local fishermen and the KDWP before I went out into the water. Not one of these places had a clue about the fishing (the main theme was they were slow and they thought it had to do with the water being down.) This didn't stop us from going fishing and we did manage to catch a few whites when we spotted sea gulls diving at shad. I would rather KDWP just not update their lake location rather than post something that was way off.

Unlike you Jordan, some of us don't have all the time in the world to go fishing and when we have that small window of opportunity, I try to hit the lake where I think we can do the most damage. If in fact KDWP was doing their job, don't you think they would offer the same information they posted on the web site, when I asked them about the fishing in person? Again, I wasn't complaining about the fishing, because we did in fact catch a few whites but to actually see the report displayed on the website was disheartening especially after visiting with all the locals and KDWP themselves.

Good luck fishing,

Jeff

October 11, 2006 - Glen Elder Response - 10-11-06- You cant just look at this webpage, go out to a place like Glen Elder or anywhere else for that matter, and expect to catch fish just because Joe Shmoe said he caught a catfish on a hotdog...my point is that's not fishing. Guys need to get out there and learn some things. And just because you weren't catchin fish doesn't mean this report isn't kept up, or KDWP isn't doin their thing, it's because you need to learn how to fish..............I think KDWP offers a fishing clinic for people like that.....thanks to anglers like you MY belly's been full of fish all year!........Jordan Beard

October 7, 2006 - Cheney - October 07, 2006 Saturday. "Walleye". Hit the lake at 3:00pm till 6:30pm. Very Breezy. All that was biting was Walleye and they were big and fat. Many while in the boat shad came out of there mouths. Could not get any Wipers to bite. Action was not real fast one here and there. Total catch was 4, all over 21". Had four more on the poles but they came off. Real nice afternoon with my boys. Released all back into the lake. Mark.

October 5, 2006 - Fall Fishing - Mike Cook - Four Lake Guides - Fall fishing is back. For the past 6 weeks, limits of channels have come easy and big fish are showing up more and more. I did have one slow trip to Kaw a couple of weeks ago. Fish are shallow now and I can't stress that enough. I caught a channel over ten pounds last week out of water less than a foot. It mildly surprised even me. You have to remember that shallow water heats and cools quicker than the main lake water. I like the secondary points and the main lake points over the coves this time of year. Especially right now with the lake levels as low as they are now.

Yes, I'm still using the Cattracker line of dip baits. Any bait will work though. I've used shrimp, worms, grasshoppers and the list goes on and on. The cheesebaits just seem to produce a lot faster than anything else does. Think about this. A catfish is basically a big sensory organ. And like it or not, their job is clean the bottom of the lake. When you hit that fish with a big cloud of cheese smell it can't help but react. Now not all fish are the same just as not all people or dogs are the same. What I mean is that some cats may have more of a taste for shad or white perch or this or that. But I've caught 20 pound channels with their stomachs packed with white perch and they still hit that little cheese bait worm. I've caught 40 pound blues packed with shad and did the same. Unless those fish are in a totally negative mood they will react to the dipbait.

Well get out there and enjoy some beautiful fall weather and chase some channel cats. Remember to fish shallow and you will put more cats in your boat right now.

September 30, 2006 - Kinglman SFL - Went out there Tuesday I believe and should have gone there Thursday when it was cooler. I got my three poles all ready before I left... Thought I could just start casting once I hit the lake. Well the water level was looking better, but it was pretty muddy and sure enough... I had more clear water lures on all three poles. Well lots of topwater activity.. small pops so not much bass activity. Could not get anything. I think the bass were holding tight to the lily pads. I spooked a decent size when I hit the pad... but like the Clark report I think there is abundant shad. I even saw one swimming its last few strokes and it was huge. About five to six inches. I think it was it's max size. Might also mean that plenty to eat calls for harder time to catch.

I was about to call it a day when I was near the ramp and I thought I snagged and I didn't... but was too late. The fish jumped and was off. But it too looked like a big shad and if not then it was a crappie. So Kingman for me is 0 for 2. I didn't want to leave right yet and loaded my boat up and went to the other side of the lake where you need a little boat to venture due to the shallowness and vegetation. I put on a senko type bait and finally... caught a tiny bass... I at least caught something.

So I might just hit up kingman in the cooler times when there are less pads. I think it was earlier this year when the lily pads were about to start growing and I caught crappie, bass, and two pike. That time was fun. Oh yeah the lake when I got on it was flat... I could pretty much walk across it. No wind, no waves, and no clouds. I was on a time limit so I couldn't venture too far from home. Butler I have hit up most this year so giving it a break.

I hope to get out more during the cooler months and get some better success.

September 30, 2006 - Clark SFL -
Fished Clark on 9-28 caught only on white bass. Had lots of bites but not lots of fish. I tried everything from jigging live bait to trolling. I even casted for bass out there in some of the coves. The bass weren't even biting. Which is odd, you can usually hammer the bass out there. The lake is full of shad. Everywhere I went there were shad as far as you could see on the surface of the water. Its been that way since the middle of August. Its the craziest thing I have ever seen. I' ve also been fishing Cheney here and there lately. Fishing is starting to pick up, haven't had any great days, but I've had more success there lately. Keep on bringing in your reports, I love reading them. Lets start putting some heat on the KDWP for getting us some better fishing reports.

September 29, 2006 - Glen Elder Response - I also agree with a few of you who are disgusted with the "fish reporting" in Kansas! Clinton Lake, in Lawrence was giving excellent reports on catfish, at the feeders! We rushed down there for 3 days and caught nothing! It is very frustrating to think we can trust what these reports say! With the price of gas, the price of fishing license, parking, camping fees, taxes on boats and campers in Kansas you would think we could at least get a good fishing report, up to date and accurate! For years, we drove to Missouri to fish. We caught more, because the reports were accurate! We decided to try Kansas this year, due to the price of gas but it's the same ol' tired stories that aren't true! It's to bad. I think KDWP needs to do more to make it accurate! Kren

September 26, 2006 - Cheney - September 26, 2006 Tuesday. Been a month or so since I've been out. Had a excellent day. Really nice day with very little wind. Temp in the upper 80. Hit the lake at 2pm till 7pm. Had poles out on the Westside for less then 5 mins. and wham. Nice 21" Wiper. Then this speedboat came right were i caught my fish at 80 m.p.h. pissed me off. So, i left and went to Wichita point and caught 4 more Wipers 18". Went back to the Westside and on and off kept catching one here one there. Not really fast but enough to keep me busy. Nothing like summer time action but nice fish here and there. My final fish was a 24 lb. Catfish. Boy did it take me a while to get him in. Snagged him. He did not want to come up. Total catch around 12. Talked to several live bait fisherman. They were having no luck. Trolling seemed to be the key today. Not sure, this might be my last trip for the season. Mark.

September 24, 2006 - Looking for ponds with snapping turtles - I know this is a little off for a fishing report but, I would like to know of some ponds that have been taken over by any kinds of turtles.....snappers are what I'm after, and I'm tryin to help out any local ponds I can...I know how most anglers feel about turtles eating their trophy fish's food, so posting your comment could definitly help out your chances for that angler award!......Thanks for all the reports over the summer...it really helps a guy out when he can look at the report and get somewhat of a head start...you'll be hearin from me.....................Jordan Beard

September 23, 2006 - Glen Elder Response - Concerning the posts about the KDWP fishing reports, I share your frustrations. I called them this spring and talked to the head of the fisheries division. I complained about the way the fishing reports are done. Some reports are the same information fora couple of months with only the dates changing. Others just give some general seasonal info, such as this time of year the crappie are usually here etc. A few lakes like Cedar Bluff, give a good report and update it regularly. The answer I got was that The biologists are supposed to send in a report at least once a week. He said some were better at it than others. He was very friendly and told me I might try calling some of the biologists directly. I have noticed that the reports have been the same as always. With the price of gas, it would be nice to have some good, timely info to plan your trips with.

September 22, 2006 - Glen Elder Response - Hey everyone, I kind of agree about the last comment posted. There are so many variables that play into it that I quit following the KDWP report a long time ago. A guy just has to get out and fish to know. The KDWP report reminds me of a guy I work with who brags about catching stringers of 20lb. catfish every weekend. For what I pay to camp, fish, and tax my boat in this state, it's a huge dissapointment. Missouri and Oklahoma offer so much more for a fraction of the price. I know KDWP does the best they can, it just seems like the system is broke. If anyone has been having luck at cheney, could you let us know. Eric

September 22, 2006 - Glen Elder - I just noticed the fishing report for Glen Elder that is posted on the KDWP web-site dated 9-20-06. Do not believe everything you read. The white bass story is so far off. I just spent 3 days on the lake and we caught a few small whites. Nobody in the area had a clue about the fishing conditions including KDWP themselves. When I asked questions about the fishing, they didn't think much was going on or they haven't heard any reports of anything. I talked to several locals and they too said not much going on because of the water conditions. I've requested the contact info that KDWP uses for Glen Elder, but I doubt they'll send it my way. I was going to Glen Elder anyways to take my Dad fishing but it's very frustrating to see this report come from KDWP, especially since none of them at their office at Glen Elder had nothing to say about the fishing.

Good luck fishing,

Jeff

September 16, 2006 - Answer to Florida Bass question - Hello. I read your question about how to catch those bass you are seeing. I am a florida native and have been fishing central florida for over 30 years and i can tell you that if you put a live golden shiner in front of those fish you will indeed connect with them. If you need more information on how to fish with this kind of bait let me know and i will send to you a link to all the info you need. I have a few places where i catch my own golden shiners and keep them in a tank to use when i want to go fishing. This is another complete subject i know but once you start catching bass with shiners you won't want to stop. If you buy them they run from $16.00 to $20.00 a dozen, this is to much for me to pay so i catch my own. Catching the bait is almost as much fun as catching the bass! Jeff Morrow, Sarasota, Fla

September 15, 2006 - Pete's Puddle and Harvey County West - Well originally was planning on just checking out Pete's puddle. From what I read it sounded pretty good... stocked lakes and all. The map didn't really tell me what I needed. It looked like you could toss a rock across the ponds and well you pretty much can. I won't give the place any bad comments because most of the problems is the dry seasons we get. It looks like their lakes are about three feet down. Only a few are holding up really well, but they were rather murky. I did not catch anything. I thought I might have had a big bass at their main lake, but I realized it wasn't since it wasn't a strike like one. I believe I caught one of the huge koi or carp. One of their ponds had some huge carp in it, but the snag I felt was much bigger and I was on the little bridge and sure enough see about two and a half foot gold monster. I think I snagged that fish and it ran. But it was bigger than the koi at the zoo. Some of the lakes were almost empty from the dry seasons we have. When you have the stocking pipes nearly at your shoulders when you fish the ponds you know the water levels are low.

When I first arrived no one was around so I went to harvey county west since it was just around the corner, which I did not know. I just don't like fishing a place that I don't have permission to fish at. Well harvey county west was a nice looking place, but the lake... wasn't too promising either. Shallow in most parts and murky. I fished for a little bit and then went back to Petes to do all that I commented above. Does worry me that if we don't get some good rainy seasons then bass fishing might be struggling in years to come. Guess I will have to learn how to fish for something else... I'm just not a fan of trolling. Sunday might be taking my brother fishing. Depending on the weather. Hopefully we will have some better success... I don't mind though catching some sunfish while my brother gets the chance at the big bass. I'm sure most others would agree that if you take someone else fishing with you that it's nice when they catch fish.

September 13, 2006 - Clark State Fishing Lake -
Went to Clark State Fishing Lake on the 12th and pretty much got skunked. Does anyone know what the deal is? Everyone i've talked to lately has had the same story.

September 11, 2006 - Greenwood County Watershed - Perfect overcast day. Wind was still out of the south with a few light showers. Shown are the largest of over 50 fish caught between Pablo and I. Most came on Tiki Man wave worms in the sweet potatoe pie color and black and blue jig and pig.

September 8, 2006 - Answer to question about Pond Fishing Dove Reference - We hunted in a Barton County sunflower field. Friday the 1st was great, but a cold front that came in Friday night must have moved them out and shut the fishing off as well.

September 8, 2006 - Question on Clinton Lake Catfishing - HI-I noticed on your web-site that you review Clinton Lake and claim that Channel Cat fishing is excellent in baited areas. I was wondering what you mean by baited areas and how to find out where they are?

Thanks,

September 7, 2006 - Question about Pond Fishing Dove Reference - I realize this should probably go on the hunting reports, but I was curious what part of the state Denny G. was hunting in. I've heard nothing but poor reports so far for southcentral Ks.

September 6, 2006 - Response to Farm Pond Fishing I look forward to responses to Dominic,s question about local private fishing opportunities with or without a fee. I too, am interested in those opportunities that would capture the attention of my daughters. One such experience I can relay is a day we spent at Pete,s Puddle Resort last summer. We were guests, part of a group picnic at this otherwise member,s-only resort. The resort is 135 acres, 85 of which are stocked lakes/ponds. The resort is owned and operated by Culver,s Fish Farm.

We fished several of their ponds, but the most fun was the kid,s fishing pond aptly named Bluegill Haven. The bluegill and hybrid bluegill kept my five and seven year old busy, not to mention my wife, father-in-law and I who were baiting hooks nonstop. We finally took a break after catching and releasing at least 50 fish. I even had opportunities while the girls were occupied to catch some bass, including my first wiper. It was an enjoyable experience for us all.

September 6, 2006 - Pond Fishing - 9-1-06 - After an exceptional day of dove hunting, we wound up the day by some catfishing. Frogs usually are the ticket on this pond but they just couldn't resist the Sonny's dip bait.Caught 2 in just 10 minutes! Something they hadn't had before I suspect. This was my son's favorite part of the trip!

September 3, 2006 - Farm Pond Fishing - Kansas needs rain! I believe we are hitting a six year drought from my readings. And it's starting to show. The farm pond I have been fishing for twenty years is about three feet low now. Still holding some good fish, but too much fishing pressure and some more evaporation can destroy it. Any ways I took my brother with me and I wanted him to fish in the good spots so I stayed in the less active spots... the shallower areas. I knew where the bass where, but even in the less likely spots some can be caught, but they did not like me today. I caught one bass that was staged at a twig in the water. I saw it attack the top so I wacky wormed a 3x zero and got him. After some time I felt like doing some topwater and having some fun. I knew the fish jumping at top were tiny. So I took out my clear bobber that you fill with water and it can be twisted inside to stay put and tied on two flies and casted to the middle of the pond. And here came the panfish. A few times I caught two at once. So I had fun catching fish the size of my hand. I always thought... panfish why bother, but when the other fish are not interested they can be fun to catch. And they can put up a fair fight for how little they are.

I do want to try and look around for some private places to fish whether need to pay for a season pass or not. I like taking my family places where they can catch something and well farm ponds can be the best for that, but the next would be private places to fish. So if anyone has had any experience with any certain place it would be great to let me know.

Thanks,
Dominic

September 1, 2006 - Butler SFL Did not want to get up as early as I wanted to, but decided to go there any ways. Of course the clouds always leave when you get there and come back when you are not fishing and taking a break. It's a little higher than last time I was there in July, but still pretty low. Very windy so I did not fish the main body that much... I never do though. I can always seem to get something beyond the first rock pier and I did. I pulled out my lure I always have success with there and that was a white square billed crank that dives only a few feet down. Caught one legal sized and then went back to shore and just waded the rest of the time and caught many small sized in the same area. Hopefully we get some rain like forecasted tomorrow and a little in the morning saturday since we really need it. Kansas could use some good bass fisheries and be bad if drought destroys the ones we have that are close to home.

Going to try and go out sunday... but going to a farm pond since I'm sure it will be busy any where public, although one year I did go to kingman and caught a few bass and had a few onlookers watching me. When a place gets busy it's just getting spots that no one goes to... like thick in the lily pads.

I also might start looking into some guides on the reservoirs so I can learn about fishing bigger bodies of water since I don't get much time to disect lakes with detail.
Happy fishing.

Dominic
